Vision technology offers 100% inspection
If you want to perform a continuous check, where the results give you an insight into root causes, then Vision technology is a sustainable solution that offers 100% inspection.
The domain of machine vision technology is broad and constantly evolving. From this point of view, the automatic and in-line inspection of our human perception differs in several areas:
Looking
HUMAN PERCEPTION
Humans use two eyes which adapt to the light conditions and are able to perceive reflections, motion, depth and colour within a limited range of the light spectrum. We can recognise patterns, but we can also be visually misled.
VISION TECHNOLOGY
Machinery uses cameras (lenses and sensors), laser technology, exposure and scanning technology to capture images. Multi-dimensional 'look' and pattern recognition are determined by the selected technologies and software-based image processing. The range within the light spectrum is much wider than in humans.
Evaluating
HUMAN PERCEPTION
To process images, we use a database of experiences (memory) and the ability to compare and interpret (thinking capacity). As this is different for every person, this is very subjective.
VISION TECHNOLOGY
Machines interpret images by means of software and can 'see' what is recorded by the visual detection system (dimensions, colour, shape, structure, etc.). The data processed can then be evaluated automatically. Much faster and more objectively than humans can.
Deciding
HUMAN PERCEPTION
Humans can use a very variable and complex assessment context. Expertise and experience are used to decide whether or not something meets the standard and is useful. Humans can change the tolerance depending on the goal, but the final assessment will be different for each person.
VISION TECHNOLOGY
- The assessment context must be determined in advance and can be complex, time-consuming and even impossible. Incorrect decisions (stop production, remove object from the line or not, sound the alarm, etc.) can have undesirable consequences.
- If the vision system is well designed, it will assess faster and more efficiently than humans.
Learning
HUMAN PERCEPTION
People store many different images, evaluations and decisions and use a complex evaluation mechanism based on experiences and estimated expectations. A self-learning but not flawless system.
